Getting to Know God
By Ginny Allen
The Bible commands us to pray over 250 times and it speaks of prayer, prayers and praying another 280 more times. That’s over 500 times the concept of prayer is addressed. So we can see that it is an important part of our walk with God. It is also true that the more time we spend in prayer the more we come to understand that prayer is not so much about getting things as it is about getting to know God.
We find it is true that the more we know Him the more we love him. God tells us in Hosea 6:6 His real desire for us. “I don't want your sacrifices, I want your love, I don't want your offerings, I want you to know me.”
Wesley Deuwel in his book Mighty Prevailing Prayer reminds us that “Prayer is not a casual or trivial act, but instead is an amazing privilege.” Every time we pray we need to remember that we are coming to the great omnipotent creator of everything that is or ever was or ever will be, the one who flung the stars into space and draped the Northern Lights across the midnight skies, the God who striped the zebra and spotted the leopard. This is the creator God who fashioned the fur on the fox, and put the meow in every cat from backyard alleys to lions roaming the savannahs. He made flowers in every color, every design, and every scent so each of us could have our favorite. And this God, this magnificent creator, wants you to know him so you will love him. He has everything in the universe and yet He wants your love. That’s why he loves it when you come to Him in prayer.
His real desire for us. “I don't want your sacrifices, I want your love, I don't want your offerings, I want you to know me.”
- Invite God to take control of your schedule and give you daily time with Him.
- Pray for people that need to come to the meetings and that God will touch their hearts with Bible truth.
