How Do You Compare?
By Mary Jo Cannard
When I was teaching, I often had my students write a beginning of the year writing sample. I would have them write and edit paragraphs, then copy them in their best handwriting. The completed work would be filed with my end of the year activities, and promptly forgotten.
In the last weeks of school, I would assign a new writing topic. We would go through the same process, just as we had been doing all year: writing, editing, creating a final copy. But, this time I would bring out the work samples from September and we would compare. It always amazed the kids. Not only had their handwriting changed, become smaller, neater, but their writing had changed, too. It was more precise, more interesting, more polished. This, more than grades, gave the students a sense of accomplishment and growth. The comparison truly showed them that they had learned this year, and achieved something worthwhile.
Have you considered your spiritual growth recently? How does it compare to a year ago? Is it the same or is it better, deeper, more meaningful?. It is only through knowing God that we can share His love with others.
but grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18a
Pray for God to show you how to deepen your relationship with Him.
Pray for someone God brings to your mind.
